Are you referring to the right service?
- The Obstetric Medicine service provides inpatient and outpatient care for pregnant women with medical comorbidities, helping to streamline and coordinate multidisciplinary care. The Obstetric Medicine service can provide preconception counselling to women planning medically-complex pregnancy
- The Obstetric Medicine service can facilitate care within existing maternity care models at GCUH, including obstetric-led, GP-shared care, MGP and private midwifery (depending on appropriateness for care in these models)
- The Obstetric Medicine Outpatient clinic accepts internal and external referrals
- If medical conditions or concerns are identified on Antenatal Clinic referrals, this will also be reviewed by an obstetrician who can arrange an Obstetric Medicine referral, if needed
Conditions
Out of Scope Services
The following conditions are out of scope for this service:
- Gestational Diabetes (managed through endocrine service)
- Obesity – uncomplicated
- Gilberts Syndrome
- Iron deficiency anaemia
- Treated hypothyroidism, gestational hyperthyroidism
- Perinatal mental health issues including eating disorders
Out of Catchment
Gold Coast Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary services or for services that are not provided by their local hospital and health service district. If your patient lives outside the Gold Coast Health catchment area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, please indicate relevant medical or social information that will assist with the processing of your referral.
