Waijungbah Jarjums
The Waijungbah Jarjums team consists of identified midwifes, Child Health nurses, Advanced health workers, and social workers, and provides maternity and child health support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families on the Gold Coast throughout the first 1000 days of life.
Waijungbah Jarjums provide holistic care to families facing adversities, or vulnerabilities, focusing optimising the growth and development of the Jarjum (child). The service aims to allow access to culturally safe health care and improve health outcomes through early intervention.
Our referral process recommends that ALL Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander babies (at birth, or <2yo if required) be referred to our service for triaging. If we are unable to accept due to limited capacity, we then refer to mainstream child health, and contact the caregiver to invite them to our Jarjums Playgroups and drop-in clinics.
