The Gold Coast University Hospital Antenatal service is undergoing a redesign which aims to provide a more efficient service that involves women in their care and decision making.

Referrals will now be booked for a phone appointment with a senior midwife to occur between 14-16 weeks of pregnancy, or within 2 weeks of referral if received later than 14-16 weeks.

This appointment is an Integrated Management and Planning (IMAP) appointment, at which a senior midwife will review the patient’s referral, results, and past history. The antenatal clinic consultant will then be responsible for documenting and discussing an issues list and recommendations to ensure consistent, evidence-based plans are made to optimise care.

A schedule of visits will be determined at this appointment according to whether the patient requires routine or complex care.

A doctor is available to review patients as needed at all appointments.

GPs participating in the care of GCUH antenatal patients will be asked to review patients as per their allocated schedule. Any changes to the schedule for a patient will be communicated with the GP.

GPs are asked to provide the antenatal clinic with any information or results that may affect the care of the patient.

Please follow the plan/recommendations, and provide any documentation of any changes, results or plans.
