Are you referring to the right service?

  • The Obstetric Medicine Dietitian service is provided for all Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service patients requiring nutrition and dietetic support for medical conditions either predating or developing during pregnancy, including, but not limited to: hyperemesis gravidarum, malnutrition, obesity with excessive gestational weight gain, diabetes in pregnancy (T1, T2, GDM), post bariatric surgery and IBD
  • The Obstetric Medicine Dietitian Outpatient clinic only accepts internal referrals, GP referrals are able to be sent directly to Antenatal and Midwifery Services

Conditions

Out of Scope Services

The following conditions are out of scope for this service:

  • Patients not currently pregnant
  • Patients not receiving antenatal care through the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service
  • Patients requiring general healthy eating and weight gain in pregnancy advice, including those with Obesity without excessive gestational weight gain or other complications. The NEMO ‘Healthy eating and weight gain in pregnancy’ can be access via QHEPS and provided to patients
  • Patients with minor pregnancy complications or concerns, including but not limited to minor nausea, reflux, constipation, iron deficiency and vegetarian and vegan diets. Relevant NEMO resources are available for these conditions via QHEPS
  • Patients with a formally diagnosed or suspected Eating Disorder. Consider referring your patient to the Adult Eating Disorder Program for diagnostic clarification and MDT support

Out of Catchment

Gold Coast Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary services or for services that are not provided by their local hospital and health service district. If your patient lives outside the Gold Coast Health catchment area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, please indicate relevant medical or social information that will assist with the processing of your referral.

  • Medicare card
  • Any concession cards (e.g. Pension, Health Care, DVA, PBS Safety Net, ADF, etc.)
  • Current medication list
  • Reading glasses, hearing and mobility aids
