- To discuss an urgent referral or seek advice, please contact the GEDI/RASS Emergency Department Consultant or Geriatrician on 5687 0016 (GCUH) or 5629 1159 (Robina), during business hours Monday – Sunday 7.30am – 4pm

Are you referring to the right service?
The objectives of the GEDI service are:
- Identify frail older persons aged 65 and above (50 and above if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander) with a Clinical Frailty Score of 4 and above, who present to GCUH or Robina Emergency Department
- Maximise patient-centered multidisciplinary decision making for frail older persons in the ED
- Undertake comprehensive frail older persons assessments to identify and meet care needs
- Identify the goals of presentation that are important to the patient and/or carers
- Fast track patient assessment and multidisciplinary decision-making
- Identify functional decline
- Reduce morbidity
- Increase appropriately supported safe discharge from the ED
- Reduce avoidable admissions to hospital
- Reduce hospital length of stay
- Reduce avoidable re-presentations to the ED
The GEDI team also assists with:
- referrals to community resources to avoid hospitalisation where possible
- completing referrals for assessments in the home, through services such as My Aged Care referrals to community services
Out of Scope Services
The following conditions are out of scope for this service:
- Haemodynamically unstable patients or those at immediate risk of medical deterioration
- Patient must be located within the Emergency Department (GEDI do not see inpatients)
Out of Catchment
Gold Coast Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary services or for services that are not provided by their local hospital and health service district. If your patient lives outside the Gold Coast Health catchment area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, please indicate relevant medical or social information that will assist with the processing of your referral.

- Any concession cards (e.g. Pension, Health Care, DVA, PBS Safety Net, ADF, etc.)
- Current medication list
- Reading glasses, hearing and mobility aids
