  • Optometrist / ophthalmology review, including computerized visual fields and OCT

Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • Suspected new diagnosis of IIH (headaches, minor visual symptoms
    • AND optic disc swelling
    • AND CT/MRI brain excluding mass lesion with or without radiological signs of IIH
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • Incidental finding of optic disc swelling with no symptoms (headache or visual)
    • AND normal optic nerve function
    • AND CT/MRI brain excluding mass lesion with or without radiological signs of IIH
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • MR suggestive of IIH with no symptoms and normal eye exam/function

If your patient does not meet the minimum referral criteria

  • Assessment and management information may be found on a range of conditions at HealthPathways
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service

Essential Referral Information

  • Medication history, including non-perscription medications, herbs and supplements
  • Eye exam (whether by a physician or Optomitrist)

Additional Referral Information

  • ELFT FBC ESR CPR results
  • MRI Report (for processing the referral)
