Useful Management Information
- Parasitic infections can be self-limiting, have mild intermittent symptoms, or present with fulminant disease in immunocompromised hosts.
- For many infections the best diagnostic test is serial stool Oocyte, cyts, parasites (OCP) testing (laboratory may need to be contacted for this test as standard is now only PCRs).
- The Infectious Diseases department is not able to assist with cases of delusional parasitosis or Blastocystis hominis carriage.

Essential Referral Information
- Results of relevant investigations including stool specimens, serology results, FBC
- Travel history, occupational history, and history of any zoonotic exposures
- Any current or planned immunosuppressive therapies
Additional Referral Information
- History of prior parasitic infections and any treatment received
- Other investigations for the same syndrome ie. results of endoscopy in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms
