Minimum Referral Criteria

Does your patient meet the minimum referral criteria?
Category 1 (appointment within 30 calendar days)
  • If concerned that lump may be malignant or infective due to size, location, growth rate or imaging result
  • Suspected foreign body or infection
Category 2 (appointment within 90 calendar days)
  • Suspected benign tumour with neurovascular compromise
Category 3 (appointment within 365 calendar days)
  • Suspected benign tumour of the wrist/hand causing persistent pain or loss of function or persistent patient concern despite education
  • If the patient does not meet the criteria for referral but the referring practitioner believes the patient requires specialist review, a clinical override may be requested:
    • Please explain why (e.g. warning signs or symptoms, clinical modifiers, uncertain about diagnosis, etc.)
  • Please note that your referral may not be accepted or may be redirected to another service

  • History including location, texture, rate of growth, neurovascular compromise

Additional Referral Information

  • Management to date
    • Consider aspiration +/- steroid injection
  • Previous surgery
  • Imaging results if applicable
